German Language Film Screenings

Das Zentrum is now hosting two DVD screenings for our members and friends each month at our premises in the Griffin Centre. On the first Friday of each month join us for a screening of a film from our growing collection - from new releases to cult films or documentaries. On the third Friday of each month, we will be showing a classic film. Some films do not have English subtitles - check advertised details on our webpage or email notices if you are on our mailing list. See our webpage calendar for current screening details. Das Zentrum is the Canberra meeting place for those interested in the culture and language of the German speaking regions of Europe. Founded in 1997, Das Zentrum took over the library of the former Goethe Institute in Canberra.

We offer a broad range of print media, videos, DVDs and a representative selection of classic and modern literature by German speaking authors (many also available in English translations).

Das Zentrum also offers German conversation groups and language courses at various levels. We organise lectures, film screenings, concerts, excursions, social events and much more.

Members of the Institute enjoy free library access and regularly receive the “Federkiel”, our bilingual newsletter containing news, articles and information on events in the German-speaking community.

Das Zentrum is run entirely by volunteer staff and, while we receive some support from the ACT Government and other organisations, we derive up to 90% of our income through membership subscriptions.

Das Zentrum ist Canberras Treffpunkt für alle, die sich für die Kultur und Sprache der deutschsprachigen Regionen interessieren. Nach seiner Gründung 1997 übernahm Das Zentrum die Bibliotheksbestände des aufgelösten Goethe-Instituts in Canberra.

Wir bieten eine breite Palette von Print- und audiovisuellen Medien an und darüber hinaus eine repräsentative Auswahl von klassischer und moderner deutschsprachiger Literatur (viele Titel sind auch in englischer Übersetzung vorhanden).

Das Zentrum bietet auch deutsche Konversationsgruppen und Sprachkurse auf verschiedenen Niveaus an. Wir organisieren Vorträge, Filmvorführungen, Konzerte, Ausflüge, gesellchaftliche Veranstaltungen und vieles mehr.
Mitglieder können die Bibliothek kostenlos benutzen und bekommen regelmäßig den “Federkiel” zugeschickt, unser zweisprachiges Nachrichtenblatt, mit vielen Informationen über deutschsprachige Veranstaltungen und interessanten Artikeln.

Das Zentrum wird ausschließlich von ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeitern geführt. Obwohl wir einige Unterstützung von der Stadt Canberra und anderen Organisationen erhalten, werden bis zu 90% unserer Einnahmen durch Mitgliedsbeiträge erwirtschaftet.
