Adult German Language Courses in the ACT

Das Zentrum offers a range of adult German language courses in Canberra, ACT, including beginner and intermediate classes. Our classes are held in our community space at the Griffin Centre in Canberra. Adult German language classes for 2026 will start again in February. Sign up to our newsletter to find out when enrolments open for 2026.

Yes, it is that time of the year again! Get your Christmas goodies from the German Christmas Market in Canberra. The Christmas Markets take place on the 14th of December from 9AM to 1PM. 7 December End of Year Picnic

End of Year Picnic in the Park - Nikolaustag! Get a coffee at the markets before joining members in Haig Park for our end of the year celebration. Family and friends welcome! Light catering will be provided and there will be a Kris Kringle gifts swap provided by Das Zentrum. To be more sustainable, we ask you to bring your own plate, cup and cutlery. 6 December Advents-Kaffeeklatsch

Join us for the last Kaffeeklatsch of the year! "Kaffeeklatsch" - The German ritual of catching up over coffee and cake (or biscuits) is the perfect occasion to meet, chat and make new friends. Please bring a small plate of nibbles, fruit or biscuits to share! We will provide hot drinks (coffee and tea). Join us for our last Das Zentrum Kaffeeklatsch of 2025 on 6 December from 1:30 - 2:30pm. Please RSPC to help us plan !

WHO WE ARE

Das Zentrum, the Australian-German Institute Inc., is a non-profit community organisation incorporated under the Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act.

Das Zentrum was founded in 1997 following the Goethe Institute’s withdrawal from Canberra.

Since its opening, Das Zentrum has continued to add to the unique collection of German language material donated by the Goethe Institute and to make it available to our members and to the general public.

Join Our Language Courses

Our Language Courses for adults are open to members of Das Zentrum. You must be or become a member to be able to join a class.

Our classes are run by qualified and experienced language teachers and focus on language skills, communication and culture.

We keep class sizes small (between 10 and 16 students) which gives everyone plenty of opportunity to actively participate. Classes are held in our library in Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Canberra. Our language classes are a lot of fun - why not join us?
