Canberra German Week(s) 16-31 October 2026

Canberra German Week will be back in October 2026! Come along to a range of events from 16 October to 31 October 2026 across Canberra, celebrating German-speaking culture, business, and community. We will continue to add more Canberra German Week events to our event calendar over the next week, so stay tuned!

Qualified German Teachers needed!

We are looking for qualified German teachers to teach our adult German classes at Das Zentrum. All classes are held in person at our premises at the Griffin Centre in Canberra. Term 4 is starting soon, if you are interested, please get in touch with us on our contact page.

Interested in joining a German Book Club?

Register your interest for joining a German language book club in 2027! We have some interesting and current books to read and discuss. The book club is aimed at people who are fluent (or fluent enough) in German to read books in German and discuss them in German in a casual and friendly group of people. German Kaffeeklatsch 26 September

Join us for our monthly Kaffeeklatsch on 26 September at 1:30PM at Das Zentrum! "Kaffeeklatsch" - The German ritual of catching up over coffee and cake (or biscuits) is the perfect occasion to meet, chat and make new friends. Please bring a small plate of nibbles, fruit or biscuits to share! We will provide hot drinks (coffee and tea). WHO WE ARE

Das Zentrum, the Australian-German Institute Inc., is a non-profit community organisation incorporated under the Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act.

Das Zentrum was founded in 1997 following the Goethe Institute’s withdrawal from Canberra.

Since its opening, Das Zentrum has continued to add to the unique collection of German language material donated by the Goethe Institute and to make it available to our members and to the general public.

We offer adult German language classes in the ACT with qualified teachers in a friendly environment.

We offer a range of events throughout the year, from German movie screenings to board game nights, Stammtisch gatherings, stalls at the German markets and more!

Join Our Language Courses

Our Language Courses for adults are open to members of Das Zentrum. You must be or become a member to be able to join a class.

Our classes are run by qualified and experienced language teachers and focus on language skills, communication and culture.

We keep class sizes small (between 10 and 16 students) which gives everyone plenty of opportunity to actively participate. Classes are held in our library in Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Canberra. Our language classes are a lot of fun - why not join us?
