Richard Georg Strauss (11 June 1864 – 8 September 1949) was a German composer and conductor renowned for his operas. Regarded as one of the foremost composers bridging the late Romantic and early modern periods, he is often seen as a successor to Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt. Together with Gustav Mahler, he embodies the final flourishing of German Romanticism, blending innovative orchestral techniques with a highly developed harmonic language.
