  • Volunteers needed for our stall at the German Markets

    The German Markets are on again at the Harmonie Club on Sunday 2 March.  We are looking for volunteers to fill some of our shifts - it would be good to have 2 people per shift if possible.  If you can help, please get in touch at welcome@daszentrum.org.au !

  • New Language Classes starting in Term 3 (October - December) 2024

  • Welcome to our 2025 German language students!

    Our 2025 language classes have started this month. A big welcome to everyone! If you already have an intermediate level of German and would like to practice your language skills in a relaxed setting, join our conversation group. We still have a few places available. Our conversation group teacher will provide a weekly article or topic to discuss. Please note that this is not a formal class. It is recommend that you should have German Level B1 or higher to enjoy this group.

  • Kaffeeklatsch is back on this Saturday!

    “Kaffeeklatsch" - The German ritual of catching up over coffee and cake (or biscuits) is the perfect occasion to meet, chat and make new friends. Please bring a small plate of nibbles, fruit or biscuits to share! We will provide hot drinks (coffee and tea). Join us for our May Das Zentrum Kaffeeklatsch from 1:30pm - 2:30pm. It would help our planning if you could register for this event if possible. Thank you and hope to see you soon!

  • German Language Classes for 2025

    Our beginner language classes for 2025 are now open for registration! Places are limited as we offer small class sizes. Book now so you won't be disappointed! We will be offering classes across 4 terms in 2025. The first classes will start on 3 February 2025. Classes will run for 10 sessions per term . Cost for Term 1: $280 for the lessons plus a one-off $50 annual membership fee. For more information on our classes please go to our Language Class page . The membership fee only has to be paid once per year and is valid for all language classes and events throughout the year. Teachers needed! We are looking for more teachers to join our team. If you or someone you know has a German teaching background and wants to join the team even as an occasional substitute, please let us know.   • Bilingual Trivia Night 22 October 2024

    Our annual bilingual trivia night is back on! This time the event will be held as part of Canberra German Week. Unser zweisprachiger Trivia-Abend findet dieses Jahr im Zusammenhang mit der Canberra German Week statt. Wir freuen uns schon darauf, Sie auch dieses Jahr wieder begrüßen zu dürfen! Join us for our annual fun-filled, community fundraising bilingual Trivia Night! Learn some fun facts about the German speaking regions and Australia. Practice your vocabulary and grammar skills, and learn some German words by reading along with the questions which will be presented in both German and English. Enjoy a night out while all along supporting the German speaking community in Canberra! Topics to be discussed include various general knowledge topics that are typical for an Australian pub trivia, general knowledge questions concerning the German speaking regions of Europe, and some specific facts about German/Austrian/Swiss people who contributed to Australian society or vice versa.   • That's a wrap! - Canberra German Week 2024

    In Semester 1, Das Zentrum offered our regular monthly event program and then in Semester 2 we launched our very first Canberra German Week - a 10-day festival of events showcasing the best of Austrian, German and Swiss cultures to the wider ACT community. Thank you to our many community partners, team of 40+ volunteers and to you our members who participated at our events! Events included a German cultural reception at Parliament House, family day at Spielwelt, Swiss film night at Palace Electric, trivia night, Oktoberfest and Austrian community day at Harmonie German Club, science and innovation day at NFSA and business day at SAP Australia as well as a german teachers conference at Das Zentrum. Join us in 2025 as we offer even more diverse events and activites!

  • Volunteer with us at NMF 2025

    Interested in getting more involved in the multicultural community of Canberra?  Why not volunteer with us from 8-9 February at our German market stalls as part of the European Village at #NMF2025! We are looking for people to support marketing, events and volunteer administration over the weekend and at other events in 2025.   • Join us at our End of Year Picnic

    15 Dec 2024, 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Hungarian Gate, Bowen Drive, Kingston Bring a plate (preferably finger food or something multicultural) to share or get a coffee at On Lake Cafe before joining members, family and friends for our end of the year celebration down by Lake Burley Griffin. To be more sustainable, we ask you to bring your own plate, cup and cutlery. You may also want to bring a camping chair or a picnic blanket. Please RSVP and we look forward to seeing you this weekend!
