Canberra German Week will be back in October 2026! Come along to a range of events from 16 October to 31 October 2026 across Canberra, celebrating German-speaking culture, business, and community. We will continue to add more Canberra German Week events to our event calendar over the next week, so stay tuned!

We are looking for qualified German teachers to teach our adult German classes at Das Zentrum. All classes are held in person at our premises at the Griffin Centre in Canberra. Term 4 is starting soon, if you are interested, please get in touch with us on our contact page.

Register your interest for joining a German language book club in 2027! We have some interesting and current books to read and discuss. The book club is aimed at people who are fluent (or fluent enough) in German to read books in German and discuss them in German in a casual and friendly group of people. Join us for our monthly Kaffeeklatsch on 26 September at 1:30PM at Das Zentrum! "Kaffeeklatsch" - The German ritual of catching up over coffee and cake (or biscuits) is the perfect occasion to meet, chat and make new friends. Please bring a small plate of nibbles, fruit or biscuits to share! We will provide hot drinks (coffee and tea). Our library will open at the same time for our end of year borrowing bonanza - the perfect opportunity to browse and borrow from our collection of books, magazines and DVDs. Sign up now, classes due to start on 25 August! This beginner course is for absolute beginner students who have no prior knowledge of German. This is a short course (5 sessions). The follow up course in Term 4 will be a full length course (10 sessions).

Join us for a free screening of "All about me - Der Junge muss an die frische Luft". German with English subtitles. "Der Junge muss an die frische Luft" by Oscar winning film director Caroline Link features the autobiography of German comedian Hape Kerkeling. It was one of the most successful films of 2018, when it was first released in German cinemas and won multiple awards, including in three categories of the German Film Prize. Join us for the second semester of book club! Our August book is Sten Nadolny's cult novel "Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit", a book that is just as current now as it was when it was first published in the 1990s. We will be reading a range of interesting German books that we discuss in German. You need Level B2+ German to get the most out of book club. We have two copies of this book in our library! If you are keen to join our book club but don't have time to read the first book - no problem, simply sign up and come along.
