Join us for our monthly Kaffeeklatsch on 25 April 2026 , 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm at Das Zentrum, Australian-German Institute, Griffin Centre, Level 1, Room 1.03/20 Genge St, Canberra. What is a Kaffeeklatsch? Kaffeeklatsch is an opportunity to meet, chat and make new friends. Please bring a small plate of nibbles, fruit or biscuits to share! We will provide hot drinks (coffee and tea). Our library will open at the same time for our end of year borrowing bonanza - the perfect opportunity to browse and borrow from our collection of books, magazines and DVDs. Borrowing is free for members of Das Zentrum. Please register  for this event to help us plan. Join members of Das Zentrum for a fun movie night at the German Film Festival for only $10 a ticket including free popcorn. For more information and to purchase a ticket, please check out our German movie page. The movies we are going to see are "The Holy Grill" on the 23rd of May and "Hallo Betty" on the 24th of May. We need a minimum number of people to join us, so please help us plan and get your ticket as soon as possible.

Come along and borrow books, movies and magazines from our German language library at Das Zentrum, Griffin Centre in Genge Street, Canberra. Current opening hours: Wednesday and Thursday 3:30-5:30pm.   You can ring us at (02) 62300441 to confirm that one of our volunteers is available. Join us for our very first German movie screening of 2026 at Das Zentrum on Friday, 13 March 2026. To celebrate our very first Movie Screening for 2026, we will be providing free popcorn and soft drinks. Registration required , as places are limited. We are showing " Die Goldfische " a German comedy from 2019. Film is in German with German subtitles! The Canberra German Movie Club is looking forward to seeing you there. The Canberra German Book Club will be meeting again on 17 March 2026. We still have a few places available, so if you have ever considered joining a German book club - why not come along? We will be discussing "Über Menschen" by Juli Zeh. Membership of Das Zentrum is required for insurance reasons to participate in our book club. What is the Canberra German Book Club? We are a group of people interested in reading German literature, mostly novels and short stories. Everybody is welcome: young, old, native speakers and non-native speakers - although you do need to have at least an intermediate level of German, as both the books we are reading and our conversations will be in German.​​

The Harmonie Club will host the German Autumn Markets on 22 March 2026. Das Zentrum will have a stall at the markets - the perfect opportunity to talk to our volunteers about who we are and what we do! The German Markets in Canberra offer a range of stalls with German food and drinks, handmade goods, preserves and plants. A great opportunity for a fun day out!
